New year

Happy New Year! Am I the only one that has been hibernating?!?! If you live in Houston, you know it has been bitterly cold!! I have been spending my time relaxing and taking the new year in. I literally just went back to yoga last week, which for me says a lot.

As you know, I am not about setting new year resolutions. It just is not my thing. I do like to reflect on the prior year and think about the new year and what I'd like to accomplish. We have a few projects and trips planned that I am really excited about. This year I just want to breathe. I want to take it all in and enjoy the moment.

I have resolved to use the makeup I have before buying new products😳. I have been using the first few weeks of the year to organize and declutter. I want to focus on good stuff that I use on the regular. Everything else has been thrown away or donated.

My sister challenged me to not buy any lip products this year and I have accepted her challenge. There are a few lip products that I purchased leading up to the holidays that I have been living in this winter. They have really helped keep my lips hydrated during this crazy winter season.

I can't live without a good lip scrub. Mary Kay Satin Lips is an oldie but a goodie for me. I used to have this years ago and forgot about it. I use the shea sugar scrub once or twice a week and I follow that with the shea butter balm. I really like using the balm at night before going to bed. It smells amazing. I also like to use the EOS lip balm to protect against chapped lips.

Burt's Bees expanded their makeup line last year. I actually have not tried any of their new products but I did pick up some of their lip shimmers for Christmas gifts. I am all about natural beauty products that actually work. What I like about the lip shimmers is they hydrate while having a tint of color. They are perfect for days you might not want to wear a lipstick or a liquid lip but you want a little something more than just lip balm. This lip product could also be a good option for those of y'all that don't love lipsticks. They have great ingredients such as shea butter and fruit oils. They also glide on your lips very easily. I've included a few swatches and lip looks below.

Hope y'all are staying warm!

All three shades have a little shimmer in them...hence the name.

Summer Beauty

Over the past few months I have been keeping my beauty routine simple. I think this has stemmed from my love for Nudestix. Also, if you are from Houston or you have been to Houston you know it is HOT. The last thing I want to do is spend a lot of time on my makeup.

This summer, I have been gravitating towards very simple lids, dewy skin and either a bold lip  or a peachy glossy nude. I think I was late to the peach party but I made it and I am loving it.

Current favs:

  1. Hydration -  I always make sure to stick with my moisturizer and a face spray which is my new love (honestly, how did I ever live without a face spray!?) If you haven't tried one, you totally should. This summer I have been using the Vitamin Wakeup Mist by Pixi Beauty. You can find this brand at Target. It claims to refresh and awake the skin which I believe to be true. No matter the season, I focus on having plenty of water which also helps hydrate my skin. For me, good skin is everything. It is what helps you look alive, healthy and fresh.
  2. Concealer - A few months ago I decide to give a drugstore concealer a try. I picked up Maybelline's Dream Brightening Creamy Concealer. I am in the shade light. I am kind of surprised that I like it. It doesn't crease or settle in  fine lines. It looks natural and it lasts all day. Using a concealer is my secret to making me look more awake and fresh - that coupled with my eye cream of course 🤗.
  3. Brows - Gone are the days that I go thread my eyebrows every two weeks because I am worried they look bushy. I embrace bushy brows!! I can go months without doing my brows which I think helps give me a natural look. There is just something about thick tamed/untamed brows. Does that make sense? Untamed because it's not like you are keeping up with them but tamed because you are still using a brow product to make them look their best. I have been using ColourPop's Black N' Brown Brow Pencil for the past few months.  It is very easy to use and I literally do my brows in the morning in a matter of seconds. I focus on filling in a few gaps to make it look like my brows are thicker than they really are.
  4. Lips -  This summer I have been loving the Nyx Cosmetics Matte Lipstick in Daydream it is a beautiful peachy shade. I pair the Essence XXXL Shine Lipgloss (which looks beat up in the picture above because it rolls around in my purse) in Pretty in Hibiscus  over it so that it isn't so matte. This helps keep my look fresh. I also have been loving Mary Kay's At Play liquid lipstick in Neon Nectarine. There is just something about a hot tamale red shade for summer that I love! Sometimes I like to go with a fun bold lip when I am keeping the rest of my look simple. I got this shade as a gift from one of my relatives in Mexico. It might be a Mexico only product because I couldn't find a link to it. If you can get your hands on it you should! It is an awesome lip product. I am very impressed with the formula. It is comfortable and long lasting.

Hope you are enjoying the last few weeks of summer!
