I am back! I am not really sure where the summer went but here we are now in fall one of my favorite times of year.
In keeping with our theme of getting away in the fall, we did something a little different this time, we went to Italy! I have been to Italy once when I was studying abroad in Madrid during college. I remember really loving the cities we visited and since then I have wanted to go back. It took a lot of convincing to get the huz on the same page - but after 3 years….. I did it!
Since it was his first time in Italy, I decided Rome would be a great place to start. We chose to stay in a Airbnb which was close to a lot of the sites we wanted to see like the Pantheon, the Colosseum, Vatican City, the list goes on. Rome is the only city that I have visited where you can encounter some sort of ruin at what seems like every corner. It truly is the Eternal City. There is just something so special about Italian life. Everyone seems to be happy, not in a rush and they take time to enjoy every meal. We definitely had our fair share of pasta, pizza and gelato. Seriously, what is it about gelato that is just so delicious?!
After spending a few days in Rome we took a train to Naples where we drove to Sorrento for the remainder of the trip. We spent the rest of our time exploring the Amalfi coast. We opted to stay at a boutique hotel called Regina Giovanna which is a little bit away from the center of town. The hotel and the staff was amazing! The property is comprised of several acres of lemon and olive trees. They have their own restaurant that makes every meal from scratch. They also have their own private beach that is tucked between two cliffs. Regina Giovanna really made our stay very enjoyable.
Making Sorrento our home base, we took a series of day trips to various Amalfi towns - Positano, Ravello and Capri using a company called Miles&Miles. We basically used them for everything we did during our trip - from a cooking class, tour of the Vatican, boat tour to Capri, etc. They did a really great job. We could not have been happier with our selection of tours.
The Amalfi Coast is so beautiful. I have never seen a town like Positano. It is basically a vertical town built on the side of a cliff. Never seen so many HUGE lemons in my life! Never eaten so much pizza. After all, that is what traveling is all about, exploring and experiencing.
I am so glad that I was able to experience la dolce vita once again. It really is sweet. This trip reminded me how important food is in connecting with others. Sometimes the real world grind causes me to forget to stop and enjoy the process of creating a good meal.
Here is a little peak in to our trip!
