If you are thinking about venturing outside your comfort zone and traveling to beautiful beaches, Thailand should be on your list! When Miguel and I sat down to make a list of potential honeymoon destinations we had a long list!!
After much deliberation and crossing out many places because of weather constraints (we got married in February and we knew we wanted to go some where warm and beachy) we settled on Thailand. Thailand is known for its beautiful beaches, islands, yoga retreats, temples, street food and amazing hospitality. We had a fabulous time!! First off, I had no idea how much pad thai and sticky rice with mango I could eat...turns out it is a lot. The food was amazing! Everything was fresh which is a huge plus for us. I swear I have never seen carrots as big as the ones I saw in Bangkok. There was also delicious watermelon and coconut juice sold around every corner....yes please!
My only requirement for this trip was to ride an elephant. Mission accomplished! We were able to visit an elephant camp where we rode and bathed with elephants which was awesome. We stayed at the VIE hotel. No joke, they treated us like Beyonce and Jay Z. The hotel is very nice, the location was great and next to the mall which to us was no big deal. Ater about the third day of being told to check the mall out we finally ventured over. If you thought you made it because you shop at the Houston Galleria, I am here to tell you, the mall in Bangkok is on another level. You can buy a Bentley, groceries (yes, groceries), learn how a Hermes handbag is made, do the best five star shopping you can think of all while drinking some Thai tea. Hands down the best mall we have ever been to.
After spending a few days in Bangkok, we flew to Phuket and from there took several private day trips to various islands such as Ko Phi Phi, Koh Tao and Ko Chang. If you are interested in reading more about these islands you should check out this article. It is very easy to travel from island to island either via ferry or speedboat.
I love traveling because I feel like I learn so much about myself and the world. Every trip I take helps me connect a few more dots, either in reference to life in general or just in terms of my own life. I always come home inspired with a new love of some kind and of course grateful for the experience.
Those who know me know I love to have fresh flowers in my home. This love came from Thailand. Every morning the hotel staff would place a flower on my pillow and I would use that flower for my hair. There were huge arrangements of marigolds and orchids around every corner. Having flowers in my home reminds me so much of this amazing trip we took. There is something so beautiful about walking around with a flower in your hair.
Here are a few highlights from our trip. Enjoy!
